Government School Students

In metropolitan areas, government school students often learn to read and write in English but have limited opportunities to develop strong speaking skills. In contrast, private school students typically grow up speaking English fluently and take their language skills for granted. Due to language barriers, socio-economic differences, and geographic separation, these two groups rarely interact. Since spoken English is a key pathway to success in most jobs in India, there is a valuable opportunity for peer learning. By engaging with private school students, government school students can improve their spoken English skills in a supportive environment. At the same time, this interaction fosters mentorship opportunities, may lead to future job openings, and makes learning fun.

Testimonials

"Learning through watching videos, playing games and practicing in groups was so much fun. I feel much more confident in speaking English now. 'Meera Akka' (elder sister) was super helpful in guiding us and we did not feel shy or afraid like we would feel with a teacher. It felt like a friend was teaching us!"

What is Involved?

Students Collective offers a technology platform that seamlessly connects government school students with nearby private schools. It provides structured, class-by-class lesson plans to guide learning effectively.

Through our platform, you and your classmates will be registered in our system, ensuring a smooth and organized learning experience. English lessons will typically take place on Saturdays, as government schools operate then, while private schools usually do not. Each session will be conducted by 2-4 mentors (private school students from grades 9th – 12th who are at least 2 grades senior to you) and/or adults, often with your teacher present.

Lessons are designed to fit within a standard class period. Your mentor will take attendance at the start of each session before guiding you through the lesson. Our lessons are interactive, engaging, and enjoyable. Your only job is to learn!

All activities and progress will be tracked through our Learning Management System (LMS), allowing you to monitor your achievements and growth through detailed reports.
